Why women’s health? Why pelvic health?

Women’s health has long been underfunded, under-researched, and underserved. In the U.S., maternal mortality rates are among the highest in the developed world - especially for Black and Indigenous women.

1 in 3 women have a pelvic floor dysfunction at some point in their lifetime.

Women are taught to ignore pain, downplay symptoms, and accept dysfunction as “normal.”

You can help provide holistic pelvic health support throughout her lifespan, from her first period through post menopause.

  • 50-90% of young women experience painful periods.

  • It takes an average of 7–10 years to receive an endometriosis diagnosis.

  • 1 in 6 couples struggles with infertility. 1 in 3 women has experienced pregnancy loss.

  • 1 in 3 women has experienced sexual violence.

  • 1 in 3 women describe their birth as traumatic.

  • Menstrual and reproductive disorders are associated with increased risk of depression, anxiety, and psychological distress.

Women are sexualized but rarely educated - not about pleasure or consent, and certainly not about pelvic health. Most women don’t receive accurate, supportive education about:

  • How their menstrual cycles work

  • How to engage in safe, enjoyable sex

  • How to address pain or concerns related to pelvic floor dysfunction

  • How to support their fertility

  • What to expect during pregnancy or birth

  • How to recover in the postpartum period

  • What to expect during perimenopause

  • Or how to care for their bodies in general across the lifespan

This lack of access and information has real consequences - for physical health, mental health, relationships, and quality of life.

At The OWN Project, we’re working to change that.

We believe every woman deserves care, education, and support that centers her body, her voice, and her lived experience.
